spring cleaning?? how? what to use? where to start?
hey everyone, i have been trying to clean my house this past week and it seems that once i clean one thing and move on then the last thing gets messy again.. I have a small two bedroom house, no kids, just me and my boyfriend and my yorkie, but i just cant seem to clean my house.. i know we have a lot of stuff and not alot of room... my house has the ugly fake wood paneling in it so it makes it feel dark and closed in, im ready for spring, im tired of the snow and cold, how can i make my house seem less, uh, brown? and where should I start for cleaning? i need a THOROUGH checklist. also do you have any good remedies for getting stains out of carpets? my carpet is white but it looks cream. Im so stuck. Any ideas for cleaning? also any ideas for organizing and decluttering? any help is appreciated.... Thanks.
oh ya my house is a rental so i cant do any major changes...
uggh, i have the same problem, its just us and the dogs, and you'd swear a we had a full house of people living here. My best advice is try to do a little every day, When doing big cleaning i like to set up a row of boxes somewhere, along the wall, or on the couch or something.. I use a piece of paper to lable them, fold it in half and set it over the top of the box.. my lables are
Donate - meaning take it to a second hand shop or something
Give away- meaning i know someone that would like it or could use it
Other room- obviously this is stuff that goes elsewhere in the house, sometimes i even make boxes for each room. then clean one room at a time and take your boxes with you. once you have a box of stuff to donate, actually take it to the shop that evening, or atleast take it out to the car, because if you just leave the box set somewhere, stuff will get mixed back into the house or other stuff will get shoved in the box.
The way i clean is to start by going through the house and picking up any laundry and taking them out to the machines, and starting a load, and sorting the rest.. then while thats running i go through the house pick up any dishes.. and put a load of dishes in the dishwasher.. sometimes that will take long enough that i can go switch the laundry. Then i pick up the kitchen, put any food away thats been left on the counter. then wipe down the counters. and stack any left over dishes iin or next to the sink. Use the boxes get rid of anything else on the counters. or table or anywhere else in the kitchen.. wipe down the stove, fridge (especially the handles) then sweep the floors, might need to check the laundry by now.. mop the floor, then have yourself a little snack, or sit and have a break.. then check the laundry again if you need to and move on to the next room.. which in our house is the living room.. i start by picking up the dog toys, and my boyfriends crap. stick all the books magizines and paperwork on the table.. fix the couch cushions, fold up the blankets.. use the boxes to sort anything that doesn't belong in there. and vaccum.. Check the laundry again if you have another load to do.. then we have a carpet shampooer.. it was kinda expensive.. but if you have carpet in more than one room of your house its completely worth it. especially if you have pets. the living room is then done.. and move on to the next.. the hardest part is getting your house cleaned the first time, but after that you can make yourself do a little each day (atleast 15 mins) it should stay pretty easy to straighten up.. Best of luck, good luck with your spring cleaning.. of an i have no idea what to do with the paneling i never lived anywhere with it.. i wonder if you could paint it?
